Investe SP in Frankfurt: agency participates in the 30th Brazil-Germany Economic Meeting
Aiming to attract German investors to the state of São Paulo, the agencys investment and business officer highlighted the potential of public-private partnerships
Investment opportunities in the state of São Paulo were the highlight in Frankfurt this Tuesday, July 3, on the panel which showed the potential of the country’s infrastructure projects to about 800 participants in the 30th Brazil-Germany Economic Meeting.
“The state of São Paulo developed a new instrument for investors intending to invest in infrastructure: the Expression of Interest in the Private Initiative (MIP)”, explained Hans Schaeffer, the Investment and Business Officer at Investe São Paulo.
Created in October 2011, the MIP opens up the opportunity for the investor to present suggestions of projects to be included in the public-private partnership program of the state of São Paulo, i.e., when identifying a new business opportunity, the investor may make a proposal to the state of São Paulo by presenting studies and surveys which show the importance and need for the project that the investor intends to implement.
If the proposal is accepted by the state of São Paulo, but, at the end of the bidding process, another investor is contracted, all expenses incurred for the carrying out of the studies will be refunded by the winner of this bidding process. “It is an innovation in public-private partnerships, because it compensates the investor for the initiative, regardless of whom will execute the work or project”, affirms Schaeffer.
Meetings with companies
The primary initiative involving entrepreneurs and government representatives of both countries, the 30th Brazil-Germany Economic Meeting was promoted by the National Industry Confederation (CNI) and the German Confederation, Bundesverband der Deutchen Industries (BDI), with the support of German Chambers in Brazil.
During the event, which started on July 1 and ended this Tuesday, sector panels presented the primary themes on the bilateral agenda such as innovation, logistics, energy and urban mobility. The meeting also included technical visits and business rounds.
“We held meetings with more than 30 German companies interested in getting to know the business environment of the state of São Paulo better”, said Wilson Soares, the institutional and international relations manager at Investe SP.
In the event, three themes were highlighted in the discussions regarding the relation between Brazil and Germany: innovation; support to small and medium enterprises and quality of infrastructure. According to the Federal Minister of Economy and Technology of Germany, Philipp Rösler, and the Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Guido Westerwelle, these aspects are the engines for the technological development and creation of jobs in Germany.
At the end of this meeting, on behalf of the government of the state of São Paulo, Schaeffer invited German entrepreneurs and the attending institutions to visit São Paulo in 2013, during the next edition of the Brazil-Germany Economic Meeting to be held in the capital city of São Paulo.
