Infrastructure is way out for electric and electronic sector to grow 4% in 2009

DCI – 02/18/2009

The electric and electronics industry bets in the continuity of projects of infrastructure in generation, transmission and distribution (GTD), oil and gas and of telecommunications to sustain the 4% growth the association that represents the sector, Abinee, projects for 2009. The expectation is that the income will be of nearly R$ 128.5 billion (US$ 55.9 billion) until the end of the year. In order for such forecast to really come true, the solution is the bet of the companies in the continuity of the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC) of the Federal Government. According to Humberto Barbato, the president of Abinee, the crisis has in the investments in infrastructure a means of preventing the retraction of the economy by stimulating suppliers to produce and workers to consume since confidence in the stability at work stimulates people to acquire higher value goods. "The PAC is much more important today, when we go through a crisis, which, in my opinion, is a confidence crisis, than when it was launched, two or three years ago", defined Barbato. "The maintenance of the projects can create an environment favorable to the economy of the Country", affirmed the executive. Abinee works with the expectation of growth of the Gross Domestic Product (PIB) of 1.5%, and such index, associated to the economic setting that the sector faces since the beginning of the crisis, made the entity reduce the estimate for 2009 by three percent. "I do not think that it is reason for pessimism, but in February we had a clearer view of the market and realized the growth level is not at the levels we estimated in December last year any more", explained Barbato.
