Industrial production grows in all regions

Folha de S. Paulo - 12/11/2007

The industrial production grew, in the month of October, in all 14 regions researched by the IBGE compared to the same period of 2006. Favored by the good performance of the sectors of automobile and machinery and equipment, five States had an expansion superior to 10%. Among them is the State of São Paulo, with a growth of 11.1%, which is the highest rate since December 2004. The other States are:  Amazonas (15.4%), Paraná (14.4%), Santa Catarina (10.6%) and Rio Grande do Sul (11.3%). On the national average, the growth was of 10.3%. In the comparison without the seasonal effects with September, 13 places showed growth. The State of Paraná (13.6%) stood out positively. Pernambuco had the only negative rate (-1.3%). In São Paulo, the production of vehicles grew 25%, and the production of machinery and equipment increased 14.5% in relation to October/2006. In the State, refining and the production of alcohol and foods also stimulated the industry. According to IBGE economist Denise Cordovil, the growing offer of credit to finance the purchase of cars in more installments benefits the car sector. This year, the production record will be broken with more than 3 million produced units.
