Indias Infosys prepares arrival in Brazil
Valor Econômico 05/05/2009
If Brazil turned India into a theme for soap opera, the Indian people has decided to test Brazil's inclination as an extension of its information technology (IT) export businesses. Infosys, India's second largest technology service company, is getting ready to arrive in the country. The company is setting up the last details to open the doors of its subsidiary. The beginning of the operations should take place directly, without the acquisition of a local company.
The information was confirmed by Humberto Andrade, Brazilian officer who lives in Boston (USA) and is responsible for the development of the Infosys outsourcing strategies in the American market. Andrade, who works for Infosys for nearly four years, was put in the leadership of the area of new businesses for Latin America a year ago. So far, the only country of the region in which Infosys has local operations is Mexico. Infosys arrives in Brazil following in the footprints of a series of Indian companies that started seeing the country as a strategic basis to centralize the sale of their services to Latin America. Last month, HCL Technologies, a company with annual earnings of US$ 2.5 billion, announced the beginning of its local operations. Before it there were others like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Satyam and Wipro. Besides the geographic advantage of the country - which has great part of its time zone aligned to the time zone of the United States, the main purchaser of technology in the world - it is taken into consideration the fact that Brazil operates half of the Latin market of computer services.
