60 kilometers from São Paulo, in Jundiaí, Japi Aeronaves has bet on a service the own company calls aircraft "tuning". The owner of the company, Cláudio Sanches Bernstein, tells it is a group of products and services that can make an older airplane save up to 30% in fuel consumption. The entrepreneur estimates aviation kerosene, for an entrepreneur or farmer who owns a jet, represents nearly 60% of all expenditure with the aircraft. In the package to "power up" the plane, he recalls it is increasing the volume of orders for entertainment systems. They are Blu-ray devices with liquid crystal displays, interfaces for DVD, iPhone and iPod, among other technological gadgets that cost up to US$ 50 thousand. "The modifications do not affect the aircraft's aerodynamics. They are products like tail stabilizers, setting up of luggage racks and re-motoring", says Bernstein.According to him, the sale of the service pack currently accounts for 5% of the earnings of Japi. In one year, the Executive wants the market share to 25%. In 2009, the company had R$ 8 million (US$ 4.1 million) in earnings. For this year, the projection gets to R$ 11 million (US$ 6.5 million).Japi performs the maintaining of nearly 40 aircrafts a month. The company also offers the airplane management for the owners. The service includes the hiring of the pilot, for instance. "After the American market has shrunk, the spotlights are turning towards Brazil", says Bernstein.
