A group of eight Korean autoparts manufacturers will be installed in the São Paulo municipality of Piracicaba (SP) to meet the needs of the plant that the Hyundai assembler promises to build in Brazil. According to the São Paulo government, the companies will begin to set up their facilities in the municipality together with the assemblers next year, an investment forecast at US$ 133 million. According to Luciano de Almeida, Assistant Secretary of Development of the State of São Paulo, the impact in the municipality will be relevant. "This investment is added to Hyundai's US$ 600 million, an amount that surpasses the municipality's budget", he said. The Assistant Secretary said that the arrival of the supplying companies will generate 1.1 thousand employees and the schedule indicates the beginning of the operation in May of 2011. "The investments begin in 2009, but it is still necessary to structure the installation licenses", he said. The fundamental stone of the factory of Korean Hyundai, which was foreseen to be place on the 18
th of this month, was postponed due to problems in the schedule of the president of the company and no other date has been defined yet. Asked, the assembler did not want to say anything about the delay nor about the coming of the suppliers. The secretary said that the government is only giving structural support to the group, without any tax incentives. "When Hyundai looked for us, our role was giving directives of the places where it could get installed, according to the local available logistics and characteristics", he affirmed. The government, however, studies allowing the delay of the payment of the Merchandises Circulation and Services Tax (ICMS) in the purchase of capital goods.
