German group Hörmann, global manufacturer of residential and industrial doors, is studying the installation of a factory in Brazil, on the outskirts of the metropolitan region of Sao Paulo. "Hörmann has 23 factories, 18 in Europe, three in the U.S. and two in China. We are setting up the commercial operation in Brazil with R$ 5 million (US$ 2.8 million), and, in a year or two, after feeling the size of the market, we should install the first factory of the company in South America. Our project, something between 35 million and 40 million Euros or about R$ 100 million, indicates that it can be installed in the vicinity of the metropolitan region of Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo state cities like Jundiaí, Campinas, Jaguariuna, or even Itupeva offer a good structure for the installation of this new plant", said to the DCI, CEO of Hörmann in Brazil Flavio Pinto.
According to the executive, the German company, which operated 1 billion Euros in 2009, wants to identify trends and patterns of consumption of the domestic market. "Now in 2010, we are testing this market with 4 thousand residential doors and a thousand industrial doors for the segment of high standards which follow European standards. Our study will tell us if we will produce doors in Brazil following the European or the Brazilians standards, which are less demanding", assesses the director of the Brazilian subsidiary, and completed: "We have already thought the commercial operation working with the study of a factory in Brazil, due to a logistics issue, is more advantageous to produce here than bringing home doors from Germany. What we have is a relationship of value, the average price of a residential door with all accessories is R$ 500 (US$ 278), while an industrial door costs R$ 10 thousand (US$ 5.6 thousand) on the average", declared the director. He explained the new focus of the German company. "Hörmann is endeavoring efforts to increase its presence in the BRICs [Brazil, Russia, India and China]. It set up two factories in China, has been in Russia for three years, one year in India and now arrives in Brazil, this is the strategy" explained Flavio Pinto. Hörmann also announced its strategy to conquer industrial customers "for the industrial and logistics sector, the highest expectation of sales is at the fast doors, with a shockproof system (Softedge), but we also include sectional doors, rolling doors, load levellers and fire doors. In Brazil, we already provide industrial doors for PepsiCo, Bosch, and NewCase Holland ", concluded the director, mentioning that the company began its activities in April this year.
