O Estado de S. Paulo
General Motors informed in the United States yesterday, during the first global business conference held this year, it will launch 70 cars in international markets by 2014, among new models and renewals. One of the cars presented to 200 analysts and potential investors is an SUV fully developed by the technological center of São Caetano do Sul (SP). In the end of May, the President of GM do Brasil, Jaime Ardila, said the company is developing an international vehicle that will be launched in 2012. Besides Brazil, it will be produced in Indonesia and in another Asian country. Probably, it will be the SUV presented yesterday that, in the country, will compete with Ford EcoSport.
Yesterday, the International Vice President of GM, Tom Stephens - who presented some new cars to Wall Street investors -, said "the new products and the strong demand in the emerging markets are crucial for the growth of the company". According to international analysts, half of the growth of the global sales of cars until 2014 will come from Brazil, Russia, India and China. Last year, those markets were responsible for 52% of the sales of GM.
In February, the President of International Operations of GM, Tim Lee, visited the technological center of Brazil and he affirmed that of the 16 cars that are being designed for future launch, "75% may be sold in several countries". He also said that Brazil, the third largest market of the brand, plays an important role in the strategy of GM to have profits again. In 2009, after coming out of its reorganization proceedings, the headquarters restructured its operations and created the "new GM".
