GM do Brasil to make technological expansion

DCI – 05/14/2009

General Motors (GM) do Brasil announced the expansion of its Technological Park, in the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo (ABC region). The figures have not been revealed yet, but the fact is that the Brazilian branch of the second greatest car maker of the planet (it was the greatest until a little while ago, losing the top position to Toyota) is doing very well and betting in the Country, in spite of the problems in the head office. Almost informally, José Carlos Pinheiro Neto, GM vice-president, visited the mayor of São Caetano, José Auricchio Jr and placed the matter in the agenda. The GM executive had a private conversation with the local Mayor, who, on his turn celebrated the news, saying: "The expansion of the Technological Center brings the guarantee of the stay of the GM unit in the city and makes São Caetano a world reference of the maker".

The Technological Park of São Caetano produces the models of the Classic, Corsa hatchback, Corsa sedan, Astra hatchback, Astra sedan, Vectra sedan, Vectra GT (hatchback) and Montana pickup truck. Brazilian GM has already announced it will keep its investment plan, in an amount of US$ 1.5 billion. The amount includes the launching in 2009 of the first model of the Viva family - the successor of the Corsa line -, besides new models scheduled for 2011. The maker also invests in the construction of the new plant of car engines and components in Joinville, Santa Catarina. The plant will go into operation in 2010.
