Program of American General Electric brings executives from several units of the world to see business environment in Brazil and in São Paulo

To acquire information that will be the basis for the definition of future investments on national land. That was the goal of the meeting between 50 GE executives with the Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of Economic Development, Science and Technology, Guilherme Afif Domingos, and the President of the São Paulo Agency for the Promotion of Investments and Competitiveness - Investe São Paulo, Luciano Almeida, last Thursday, March 7, at the headquarters of the Secretariat. The meeting was part of a program of the American multinational that brought executives from different business units in the world to have a broader view of Brazil.

The business environment of São Paulo was presented by Lieutenant Governor who showed the State of São Paulo seeks to work as a facilitator so the companies are able to explore the many business opportunities of the São Paulo territory. In the area of technology, the form of operation of the Government to promote the development is to provide a high-level infrastructure and support scientific and technological research. "The State of São Paulo has laws that determine that part of the ICMS (Goods and Services Tax) collected be assigned to the universities and to the Fapesp (Foundation of Research Support of the State of São Paulo), reason why São Paulo has been standing out on the scientific research at international level", said Afif.

One of the topics of the meeting was power generation, sector of expertise of the American company. The President of Investe SP pointed out there is, in the State, great potential to be explored in the pre-salt layer and an even greater opportunity on the energy generated from biomass.

Luciano Almeida presented the project of the Center for the Development of Biomass Gasification in the city of Piracicaba, whose purpose is to find an economically attractive way to use the sugar cane bagasse and straw for the generation of electric energy, production of liquid biofuel and as a precursor of biopolymers, the so-called plastic monomers. "There are many countries researching the production of energy from biomass. What matters in the race is to be the first to find an economically profitable process. São Paulo took a big step towards reaching a viable technological solution. It'll be an environmental and economic progress, since it is a clean source of energy", he explained.

The executives of the Giant American were excited about the business possibilities met in São Paulo. "I came to Brazil, in 1997, visiting the Unicamp (University of Campinas). I could see the difference. Brazil has improved; there are greater business opportunities; there is a more positive attitude for the entering into of partnerships. I am excited with the possibilities", said Head of the Marketing Office of the energy area in Atlanta, Mark Dudzinski.
