Gafor maintains its plant project

The difficulties brought by the crisis for the obtaining of financing for the purchase of machinery will not hinder the plans of the Gafor group, traditional company of the logistics sector, to build a self-adhesive plant in Jundiaí (SP) this year. The ground leveling works have already been concluded, according to the managing partner of Gafor Distribuidora, Sílvio Fagundes. He foresees the setting up of machines in July and the production tests in August. The trend of market growth comes with the increase of the mechanization in the sectors that need to put labels in their products. Some still use the manual work to put the glue on the label. Such is the case of small wineries, for instance. But since the trend of the companies that grow is to invest in machines for the placement of self-adhesive, the market in which Gafor decided to invest will also grow. Besides beverages, self-adhesive is used by the cosmetics, pharmaceutical and cleaning material industries. The self-adhesive market is explored by companies like Colacril, from Paraná, and Flex Colt, from São Paulo. Gafor was already a distributor of the product, which it started importing from Italy four years ago. In 2008, the management of the Brazilian company decided to convince the Italian group Fedrigoni, supplier of the product, of the potential to build a plant in Brazil. The Italian group agreed provided that they were the majority partners. So, Arconvert, the self-adhesive company of the Fedrigoni group, stayed with 60% of the capital and the Gafor group with the other 40%. The participation corresponds to what each partner invested. In total R$ 40 million (US$ 17.4 million) will be invested. With 60 employees, the plant will be installed in a 9 thousand square meter warehouse in a land lot of 30 thousand square meters in the industrial region of Jundiaí, 60 kilometers from São Paulo. Jundiaí was chosen because of the weather, according to Fagundes. It is a low humidity region, which benefits the production of the self-adhesive, he affirms. The location of the municipality is also favorable to logistics, recalls the executive.
