Tomorrow, at the Expo Center Norte, in the north side of the capital of São Paulo, there will be the opening of the International Fair of Fruit and Derivatives, Processing Technology and Logistics - Fruit & Log, which will gather 83 companies in 2,000 square meters. Nearly 5 thousand professionals of the sector, among grocers, restaurants, processing companies, distributors, hotels and importers from Brazil and abroad are expected until Thursday.

"We are on the right path, with investments in modern techniques of production and processing, besides a variety of fruits capable of meeting the demand of the main international buyers.  But the diffusion of techniques and new technologies will be one of the strong points of this great meeting", says Moacyr Saraiva Fernandes, President of the Brazilian Fruit Institute (Ibraf), one of the organizers.

The event will also have a national and international business round with the purpose of promoting opportunities of new businesses in the sector, presenting new products and promoting and stimulating the commercial and industrial cooperation, the transference of technology and the creation of mixed corporation among small and medium-sized companies.

The International round will receive the support of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil), through the Brazilian Fruit project, in partnership with the Ibraf. Importers from Germany, Russia, Denmark, the Netherlands, England and South Africa have confirmed their presence. Brazil is one of the three major producer of fruits of the world, behind China and India. The Brazilian production in 2008, according to the Ibraf, exceeded 43 million tons, which corresponds to 5% of the world production. Nearly 30% is exported.

According to the Ibraf, the segment generates opportunities from two to five job positions in the productive chain per planted hectare and it is based on small- and medium-sized properties. The great bottle neck of the small fruit producers lies precisely at the sale. In view of that, the Sebrae System (Brazilian Service of Support to Micro and Small Company) has been providing support to projects that get the small producers closer to the large retailers and to the consumer.
