Fapesp and Sabesp have US$ 22.7 mi for research

The Cooperation Agreement that should be entered into between the Research Support Foundation of the State of São Paulo (Fapesp) and the Basic Sanitation Company of the State of Sao Paulo (Sabesp), next Tuesday, foresees an investment of up to R$ 50 million (US$ 22.7 million), equally divided between the two institutions, in order to fund projects among researchers of universities and research institutes of the State of São Paulo and the sanitation company. The purpose of the project is to support new researches on technologies for the treatment and distribution of water and sewer.

The Calls for Proposals will be disclosed by means of a public notice. "The agreement signals an important strategy of the public company of the State of São Paulo to expand and consolidate its research and development activities", affirms Carlos Henrique de Brito Cruz, scientific director of Fapesp, on a note. For Sabesp, the cooperation will allow improvements in its operational processes and a better service to the population. "Investing in research and innovation is essential for the future of Sabesp", says Gesner Oliveira, the President of the company. The company entered into agreements with concessionaires located in Paraíba (Cagepa), Rio Grande do Sul (Corsan), Alagoas (Casal) and Santa Catarina (Casan).
