The daily average of the Brazilian exports in the first week of June was 20.2% smaller than the average registered in same month of last year. On the other hand, it increased 17.9% compared to the daily average of May this year and contributed for the best performance of the trade balance, which accounted for a balance of US$ 1.208 billion between the 1st and 5th days of this month. Something that also contributed for it was the weak import activity that fell 38.4% compared to the daily average of June 2008 and kept almost the same level of the previous year, with a 0.3% retraction, according to a report released yesterday by the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (Mdic).
In the comparison with May, exporters sold 25.4% more of semi-manufactured goods (iron-alloy, raw aluminum, soy oil, leather and furs, among others), 20.4% more of basic products (crude oil, iron ore, cereals, meat and others) and 14.3% more of manufactured products (cars, car parts, cell phones, footwear, ethanol, motors and generators, airplanes and everything else with aggregation of technology). In comparison to June 2008, there were strong retractions in the three category of products: 28.4% in manufactured goods, 14.1% in semi-manufactured goods and 10.5% in basic products. In the total of 106 business days until last Friday, the sales of Brazilian products amounted to US$ 49 billion, a 22.3% fall compared to 2008. Imports, however, fell even more: 27.8%. For that reason, the commercial surplus of US$ 10.5 billion is 18.12% greater than the US$ 8.9 billion of the same period of last year.
