Event should attract 280 thousand tourists to São Paulo

The 26th Auto Show will bring to São Paulo 280 thousand tourists, who will generate R$ 135 million (US$ 79.4 million) in the city. The estimate is from São Paulo Turismo (SPTuris), tourism and events company of São Paulo. Only of foreign visitors should be 47 thousand people. The expected rate of hotel occupancy in the city is of 74%. According to SPTuris, the Auto Show attracted at last year's edition 200 thousand tourists, 16% foreigners, mainly from Latin America. The movement of resources in the city was R$ 112 million (US$ 56.9 million). SPTuris will carry out this year a survey to better understand the visitors.
The last survey conducted in 2008 showed that the majority of domestic tourists come from Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and Curitiba. Among the foreigners, most of it from countries like Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia, Chile and Mexico. This research also showed that 62% of visitors living outside São Paulo stayed in hotels and apartments of the south, west and center sides of the capital.
Last year, the financial transactions of tourists of the Auto Show was the fourth highest among the main events carried out in the city. It was also the fourth largest in number of tourists. The Motor Show is second in financial transactions only to Brazil Grand Prix of Formula 1 (R$ 230 million/US$ 135.3 million), Gay Parade (R$ 188 million/US$ 110.6 million) and Virada Cultural (R$ 142 million/US$ 83.5 million). In number of tourists, the auto show is second only to the Gay Parade (403 thousand), Virada Cultural (328 thousand) and the Bienal do Livro (290 thousand). Of total public (turitas and residents), the auto show is the fifth largest event in São Paulo, with 650 thousand people. First is the Virada Cultural (4 million), followed by the Gay Parade (3 million), New Year in Avenida Paulista (2.4 million) and the Bienal do Livro (740 thousand).
A SPTuris survey shows the offer of leisure facilities for tourists in the city, which has 12 thousand restaurants, 260 cinemas, 160 theaters and 110 museums, among other attractions.
