End of IPI powers up sales of cars

DCI

The pressure caused due to the last month of reduction in the Excise Tax (IPI) leveraged - as it did in March - the sales of cars in Brazil. 128.1 thousand cars and light commercial vehicles were sold in the first half of June, representing an increase of 11.21% compared to the same period of last year, according to data released yesterday by the National Federation of Distribution of Automotive Vehicles (Fenabrave). The expectation is on whether the government incentive will be postponed after June 30.

As for the sale of trucks and buses, 5,166 units were sold in the first fifteen days of June, a decrease of 1% in the monthly comparison and 23.11% on the annual basis. On the other hand, the sales of imported vehicles retracted 3.56% in May compared to the same period of last year and stayed at 2 thousand units. In relation to April, the increase registered in the month was of 10.62%, according to the Brazilian Importers Association of Automotive Vehicles.
