The national pharmaceutical laboratory from Hortolândia (SP) EMS, the biggest one in the country, is getting ready to start exporting generic drugs to Cuba as of the first half of 2010. In November, the company executed an agreement with the Cuban State-Owned Company Quimefa, through which, at first, it should bring Cuban medicines to Brazil. Also as part of this agreement, EMS will export, as of 2010, generic drugs to that country, too. The products are yet to be defined.

This year, the Brazilian pharmaceutical company has signed an agreement for cooperation and exchange for the transfer of technology, in addition to the registration and sale of Cuban products in Brazil. The first medicine that should be imported by EMS will be Salbutamol, aimed at slight asthma. The forecast is that 300 thousand units should arrive in the first half of 2010. Other Cuban medicines in the areas of oncology, pneumology, neurology and infectious diseases should also be imported by EMS.

The company is taking part of the party headed by the Minister of health, José Gomes Temporão, who is in China. The Minister wants to strengthen the relations with that country in the areas of health and business, informed "Agencia Brasil". Temporão leads a party formed by representatives of public agencies, including the BNDES (National Development Bank), the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) and the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa). He is also accompanied by national industries that should enter into partnerships in the sector of medicines and medical equipment.
