Brazilian industry EMS, national leader in the pharmaceutical market for three years, registered in the third quarter of 2009 23.5% of growth in sales compared to the same period of last year. The index exceeded the 15.7% registered by the sector. In number of produced units, the company also increased 17.7% in the period compared to the 9.4% of the market. The EMS Genéricos Division (of Generic Drugs) had 31.1% of growth in sales and the EMS Consumption Division, 36.8%.
In the assessment of the Market Vice President of EMS, Waldir Eschberger Junior, such growth is due to some actions undertaken in the areas of prescription and consumption. In the area of prescription, EMS developed strategies this year in order to approach the medical class having nearly 1000 physicians visiting it to get to know the company and the type of product that is being produced. At the same time, EMS has developed three market studies, among them, an action involving Unicamp (State University of Campinas) and Brazilian Society of Cardiology regarding the metabolic syndrome. "Besides this approach with the medical class, there was also a change we made in the processes, that is, we restructured the company internally generating a series of competitive advantages that did not exist in the past, thus improving our efficiency", he explains.
The line of generic drugs is responsible for most of the sales of the company. The Marketing Officer for Generic Drugs, Marco Miguel, revealed that in February this year was created a portal for the generic drugs called "At the Drugstore", aimed at the pharmaceutical class, in which professionals enter their registration number with the Regional Council of Pharmacy in order to gain access to the portal. In the portal, the professional has access to information related to generic drugs and also to scientific information for professional training. The portal has already registered more than 60 thousand accesses.
