Embraer grew the most in 2010

Folha de São Paulo

Driven by the demand in Brazil, Embraer was the Executive aviation company that grew the most in number of aircrafts sold worldwide in 2010. They were 145 jets, 23 more than in 2009. Of the total, 100 are of the Phenom 100 model, the smallest jet of the manufacturer, of US$ 3.9 million and autonomy to fly from Rio de Janeiro to Buenos Aires, for example. In the world, 763 executive jets were sold, a 12.3% fall compared to 2009 (870).

Embraer stayed with 19% of the market, according to data of Gama, the General Aviation Manufacturers Association, based on the number of deliveries made in 2010. Two years earlier, Embraer had a mere 3% of market share.

The Phenom 100 began being made in December 2008. Of a fleet of 200 aircrafts that are already flying in the world, 60 (30%) are in the hands of Brazilians.

The Brazilian fleet of executive aircrafts made up of jets and turboprop grew 30% in 2010, to 1,400 units. Francisco Lyra, President of the Abag (Brazilian Association of General Aviation), says the expectation for 2011 is to repeat the growth.

Besides the heated economy, Lyra says the market is being driven by three factors: cheap dollar, low price of the aircraft (mainly second-hand ones because of the reduced demand in the US and Europe) and abundant credit.

The participation of Latin America in the market executive jets jumped from 9.2% in 2009 to 14.3% last year. Asia and the Middle East also grew, while the USA and Europe have shrunk.
