Embraer and Boeing begin tests to use biofuel blend in flights

Valor International

Embraer and Boeing will start next month a series of joint tests to develop technologies aimed at increasing operational efficiency of their aircraft. One focus of the partnership is to evaluate the performance of biokerosene produced from sugarcane. The final blend that will supply flights during the tests will have 10% of biofuel and 90% of fossil fuel, the maximum certificated ratio in the industry. The research’s purpose, however, is to totally replace aviation fuel with biofuel in the long run, although companies cannot set a specific date.
