Earnings of industry breaks record
O Estado de São Paulo
The earnings of the industry have never been so high, according to the Industrial Indicators of September, disclosed yesterday by the National Confederation of the Industry (CNI). The result of the month exceeded the prior peak achieved in March this year and also exceeded the best result achieved so far, in July 2008, prior to the international financial crisis. In September, the indicator reached 120.3 points, compared to 119.6 points in March this year and 118.9 points in July 2008. Nevertheless, the performance in March this year was atypical because it resulted from the race for consumption in the month in which the incentives granted by the Government during the crisis ended. The CNI survey uses as a 100-point fixed basis as its index, which is equivalent to the average obtained in 2006, date of beginning of the publication.
In the year, until September, the real earnings of the industry features 11.3% growth compared to the same period since 2009, showing that, at least regarding the earnings, the industry has already completely overcome the crisis. Despite the record earnings, the speed of growth got more moderate in the past months, in the assessment of the Executive Manager of Economic Policy of the CNI, Flávio Castelo Branco. After dropping in August compared to July, the real earnings of the industry resumed growing in September, with 1.9% compared to the previous month. Compared to September 2009, it grew 10%. "The data of September show certain behavior of moderation", said Castelo Branco.
For the economist, the record earnings in the month should be observed with caution, because part of the growth this year results from the recovery compared to a strong fall in 2009. According to Castelo Branco, the industry should continue growing in the coming months, but at a slower speed, which still indicates new records in the earnings indicator. For the second month in a row, the Level of Use of the Installed Capacity (Nuci) in the industry fell and reached 81.9% in September. It was at 82.2% in August. For Castelo Branco, the movement shows the industry has capacity to increase the offer of products, in case the demand continues high.
