Despite gloomy market, Mercedes-Benz keeps €500m investment in Brazil

Despite the crisis that brought down the demand for trucks, Mercedes-Benz, the largest maker of commercial vehicles in Brazil, has reiterated its plan to invest €500 million to "prepare" its subsidiary in the country for an expected market recovery in the future. "In the past, the Brazilian economy has brought fantastic results. I see potential in the country because Brazil proved it in the past. We are convinced that it’s going to react,” said Stefan Buchner, global head of Mercedes truck division, after the launch on Wednesday of the brand's medium, semi-heavy and extra-heavy trucks, which arrive in the market with a 5% price increase. Not unlike the competition’s average, this year Mercedes has sold 43% fewer trucks than in 2014.
