Dell to invest US$ 1 billion to grow 39% in Brazil

Dell, a maker of computers and servers, announced growth of 39% in its earnings in Brazil from January of the year to January this year. In the world, the maker grew 16% last year, amounting to US$ 61.4 billion. The American company with a plant in Hortolândia (SP) will invest US$ 1 billion in innovation this year in the developing of new services in cloud computing and in the creation of a database unit for clients of its global chain.

The heating of the economy and the recovery from the period of crisis influenced the growth, says to Raymundo Peixoto, President of Dell in Brazil. "Brazil consolidated as a major economy in the world scenario and that shows in the figures of the company. One of the next strategic steps will be the focus on virtualization to more organizations and users", he says.

The figures show the market for desktop computers still have a positive growth perspective, despite the constant threat of the sales of notebooks and other portables. The country ended 2009 with 13.7 million units sold, a volume 23.5% greater than that of 2009, according to a statement of the consulting firm IDC, and that turns Brazil into the fourth country in sales of computers, only behind the United States, China and Japan. At the Dell plant in Brazil, in Hortolândia, interior of São Paulo, Peixoto has not disclosed data on the profitability of the company in the country, but he said "the numbers are positive".

Within the strategic sphere, since 2007 the company has been following a plan for the acquisition of companies, amounting to ten companies acquired so far. Among them stand out Compellent, data management company, and SecureWorks, a provider of security services, both absorbed by Dell in early 2011. Without giving details, the President of Dell stressed out the sales of servers in the last fiscal year of the company, a factor he says has caused the company continue as a leader in the sector, ahead its rivals IBM and Hewlett-Packward (HP).

According to the company, the announced investment of US$ 1 billion involves the development of new services, cloud-based solutions and options to allow customers to capture the benefits offered by new developments occurred in the areas of computing and information technology. Until the end of 2012, Dell will put up data centers across its entire chain, so that its customers have access to the cloud computing technologies, both private and public, as well as to the best outsourcing capabilities of information technology (IT). Those new Dell data centers will allow customers to benefit from the offers of Infrastructure, Platform and Virtual Desktop, as a service, as well as the possibility to outsource IT.
