Datasul has record earnings in 2nd quarter

Datasul SA, Brazilian integrated business management software multinational, announces the results of the second quarter of 2008. Its net operating income reached R$ 75 million (US$ 47.8 million), 39% more than the same period of the previous year, with organic growth above 20%. The EBITDA amounted to R$ 17.2 million (US$ 11 million), with increase of 50% compared to the same period of 2007. The adjusted net profit totaled R$ 13.4 million (US$ 8.54 million) in the quarter compared to the R$ 8.8 million (US$ 4.56 million) in the same period of the previous year, which represents a 51% increase. Datasul ended the second quarter of 2008 with 3,500 active clients, 21% more than the total of the same period in 2007, and 73 franchises, in comparison to the 53 in the second half of last year. 10 franchises have been created to sell specialized solutions, whether they are horizontal - tax-related and IT services - or vertical - agribusiness, health and financial services. The investments in research and development amounted to R$ 9 million (US$ 5.73 million), representing 12.5% of the net operating income, in line with the historical average. Such investments were concentrated, mainly, in the acquired companies, in the products located for the other Latin American countries and in the new generation of "Datasul By You" products, a business management software that can be accessed anywhere around the world, via Internet. During the second quarter of 2008, the net income from subscriptions reached R$ 16.1 million (US$ 10.25 million), compared to the R$ 2.6 million (US$ 1.35 million) in the same period of the previous year, a 525% increase. This line of income is formed by the sales of Datasul Start (a solution for small- and average-sized companies), those rendered as ASP (Application Service Provider) and SaaS (software as a service), lease of software, in addition to part of income from the Datasul Educação Corporativa, from YMF, from Tools and from the Soft Team. Therein, the use licenses, maintenance and added services are converted into monthly fees and recognized throughout the contract, becoming fixed income.
