Cumbica train public bidding rules to be released until March

Valor Econômico – 01/23/2009

Yesterday, the Government of São Paulo published a decree authorizing the launch of the bidding rules for the Expresso Aeroporto. The forecast is that the document will be released until the end of February, which would allow the execution of the contract at the end of this first half of the year. The decree confirms the changes informed in advance by Valor concerning the bidding which would be based on the greatest value for the grant and the increase of the ceiling for the fare to R$ 35 (US$ 15.2). "We believe it makes more sense to have a maximum fare, since the train will serve a different public, and ask for the highest value for the grant, which will allow the State to reduce its costs in the construction of the line 13-Jade", says Sérgio Avelleda, CEO of the São Paulo Metropolitan Train Company (CPTM). R$ 1.4 billion (US$ 608.7 million) will be invested and the works are expected to last three years. Avelleda says the financial crisis has not decreased investors' interest in the project.
