CSC plans tripling income in the country until 2014

Valor Econômico

The American CSC, one of the world's largest companies in the outsourcing if information technology (IT), intends to triple in size and achieve earnings of at least US$ 250 million in Brazil in the next three years. The idea, according to its CEO, Michael Laphen, is to enter the list of the ten largest companies in the country. Today, large companies like Stefanini, Politec, CPM Braxis and Accenture have earnings between US$ 200 million and US$ 600 million. In an exclusive to Valor, the Executive explains that, because of the growth of the economy, Brazil is one of the countries where the company may find an easy way to increase its turnover in the next few years. According to Laphen, the sectors in which CSC intends to dedicate more are finances, telecommunications, oil and gas, and manufacturing.

The very administration of CSC considers the company an ' unknown ' amid the largest groups in the world. Therefore, its current plan is to invest more in advertising. Founded in 1959, the company was the first in the software area, worldwide, to be traded in the stock exchange. Today, with US$ 16 billion of annual earnings and more than 90 thousand employees in 90 countries, it is one of the largest renderers of outsourced services in the IT world, fighting for market with giants like IBM, HP, Accenture and Indians like Infosys, HCL and Tata (TCS). The Indians, in fact, have earnings significantly smaller than CSC (between US$ 2 billion and US$ 6 billion), but their brands are better known.

The company is in Brazil for some years, but it was only in 2009 that it began acting more intensively, after buying the local unit of the Bearing Point - that filed for bankruptcy in the USA in February. From August 2009 so far, the operation grew 30%. The evolution is well above the initially expected, according to Laphen. The number of employees went from 700 to 875 and the contracts reached 50, with 15 new Brazilian and global clients. With the operation structured in the country, the Executive said CSC will concentrate its efforts on gaining more Brazilians customers. The targets are mainly companies willing to internationalize.

To grow, Laphen says he will count with the evolution of the businesses of the company, but he will also make investments in acquisitions. Asked, the Executive does not disclose whether there are advanced conversations with any company. We can imply, however, that one of the first targets of CSC will be companies in the segment of data centers. The structure is vital for the company to bring the country its offers of systems that can be accessed through the Internet, the Software as a Service (SaaS), one of the modalities that have generated more operations on the IT market today.
