Ferrari Agroindústria S.A., from Pirassununga, becomes a shareholder of Copersucar S.A. and invests R$ 140 million (US$ 66.7 million) to increase the milling capacity from 1.8 million tons to 2.5 million already in the current 2009/2010 harvest. Nearly 140 thousand tons of sugar and 94 million liters of ethanol will be produced. Ferrari starts, also this month, the co-generation of 45 MW/h of energy, with the sale of the surplus of 30 MW/h, equivalent to 130 thousand MW/h per harvest.

With this new associated company, Copersucar has 34 producing units located in São Paulo, Paraná and Minas Gerais, responsible for the industrialization of 78.6 million tons of sugarcane in the current harvest. The production of sugar corresponds to 4.5 million tons and the production of ethanol, 4 billion liters.

Ferrari was created in 1953 to produce cachaça and it grew as an alcohol and sugar producer. In 2007, the group became a joint stock company and created other companies, such as Ferrari Agrícola S.A., which absorbed the assets and activities of the old agricultural condominium, WSC Participações S.A. and Ferrari Termoelétrica S.A., aimed at the generation of energy from the sugarcane bagasse.
