Confidence of industry is the biggest since 2005

O Estado de S. Paulo

The confidence of the industrial entrepreneur increased in October and reached the highest level since January, 2005, according to the National Confederation of the Industry (CNI). The Index of the Confidence of the Industrial Entrepreneur (ICEI) registered 65.9 points, compared to 66.2 points in January, 2005. The result of October, fairly above the indicators of the international financial pre-crisis period, shows in the evaluation of the CNI the consolidation of the process of recovery of the industrial growth and points to the resumption of the investments. "The results indicate the entrepreneur is noticing the end of the crisis and bets on a sustainable recovery", assessed, through the press office, the executive manager of the Unit of Research, Evaluation and Development of the CNI, Renato da Fonseca.

The index of October is 7.7 points higher than the result of July and 13.4 points above the index of October, 2008. It also surpasses the historical average that is 58.1 points. The improvement occurred mainly due to the more optimistic perception of the entrepreneurs regarding the conditions of the Brazilian economy and of their own businesses. In these two aspects, which help form the ICEI, the entrepreneurs were pessimists in the survey made in July. Now, they affirm the Brazilian economy and their own companies are better than six months ago. The indicator that gathers these two evaluations increased from 47.2 points in July to 60.5 points in October. It is the first time this year that it exceeds the line of the 50 points - level above which the answers show optimism, or confidence.

The ICEI is calculated every three months based on the perception of the entrepreneur on the current conditions of the economy and on the entrepreneur's own company and in the expectations for the next six months in relation to these two factors. The indicator varies from 0 to 100 points, and the results above 50 points indicate confident entrepreneurs. The CNI heard 1,418 companies between September 30 and October 23.
