Chinese investment in the country gets to US$ 7.5 billion

Folha de S. Paulo

Besides being a great commercial partner of Brazil, China intensifies its participation in the country as an investor. The total investment made by the Chinese capital in the country in 2010 exceeded R$ 12 billion (US$ 7.5 billion), according to a study made by the CBBC (Brazil-China Business Council) to be released tomorrow.

What draws attention is no longer the volume but the diversification of destinations of resources, according to Sergio Amaral, President of the CBBC. "Among the announced and confirmed investments, stand out the sectors of energy, agribusiness, steel, telecommunications and education", said Amaral. "Most are not restricted only to raw materials".

For this year, the resources should reorganize towards the industry and the sectors of advanced technology. Energy, mining and steel were responsible for 90% of the volume of investments announced in 2010, according to the entity. The Chinese interest in the country is predominantly in mergers and acquisitions, which represented nearly 50% of the resources in 2010. Joint ventures had participation of nearly 25%. The investment by means of new projects also exceeded the 20% of the resources in 2010.
