She graduated in law, but she got married early and soon had two children: the right ingredients for a domestic destiny. Vera Gabriel, however, is not the kind of woman who identifies herself with the housework and she soon took over the family business ahead the solvent distributor her father, Alfredo Miraglia, had just purchased. This year, Carbono Química celebrates its 30th anniversary, 18 of which under the control of the Officer who turned it into the second largest solvent distributor of the Country, only behind Petrobrás. The great project now is to change it from distributor to producer of chemical oils, used, for instance, in paints, a program which must consume US$ 8 million, and that is only waiting for the approval of the National Development Bank (BNDES) to become reality. Carbono has injected US$ 2.7 million in the improvement of the branch of Ribeirão Preto (SP), which went from 3 thousand to 17 thousand square meters, and in the implementation of the corporate management software that will interconnect all its branches in one single technological basis. "We noticed we could also make the production besides the distribution and we now decided to take such step after 30 years", explains the Officer, adding, however, that everything has to be done on sustainability. Currently, Carbono has three units which include the storage and distribution centers in Ribeirão Preto, which serve the sugar and alcohol market and the grain market of the interior of São Paulo and the Mid-West; Campina Grande do Sul, in the state of Paraná, which attend the leather and adhesive markets of the South of the Country; and São Bernardo do Campo, intended for the market of paints and varnishes. Besides, it also has representation offices spread throughout Brazil and Latin America. However, it is not only the production that appears on the radar of the company. Next month, Carbono starts in the country the exclusive distribution of the line of sustainable solvents produced by Total Fluídos, a subsidiary of the French group Total. The expectation is to increase the earnings of the company from 3% to 5% just with these new products.
