Building companies already project bigger growth this year

Valor Econômico – 03/26/2009

The businesspeople of the building sector, especially those who work with low income, applauded the housing package of the Government. More than that: they already project a new level of growth due to the measures announced and prepare strategies - including the entrance in new markets - to speed up the participation of their companies in the package. Yesterday, the atmosphere, both among those who were in Brasilia and those who followed the announcement form the distance, was one of optimism - even because companies like Gafisa, MRV, Cyrela, Rodobens, Rossi and Bairro Novo participated actively in meetings and discussions with the Government.

The fear that the plan might be distorted vanished as the plan was being detailed.  "It was exactly the way we asked for", said Rubens Merin, CEO of the Minas Gerais company, MRV. "The plan came out perfect, contemplated all the aspects that obstructed and made the process expensive", said Wilson Amaral, CEO of Gafisa, which is the owner of 60% of Tenda, which works in the low income tier. All the companies asked by Valor said that the forecast for the year improves because of the measures. PDG Realty, the owner of Goldfarb, a São Paulo company that operates in the low income segment, calculates this year it is possible to build from 15 thousand to 20 thousand and up to 25 thousand units due to the measures. The pro-sector speech is unanimous and there are still doubts about the capacity of management of the measures. But being ahead in this dispute is essential, mainly in times of crisis. The companies are already gathering their teams to study the measures, understand where to gain market and recalculate projections.
