Brazil to become second largest market of Renault
Folha de S. Paulo
In 2013 Brazil will become the second main market of the French automaker Renault, behind France and ahead of Germany. In a press conference on Thursday, on the outskirts of Paris, for the presentation of the strategic plan of the company for the 2011-2016 periods, the CEO of Renault, Carlos Ghosn, confirmed Brazil is one of the priorities of the automaker.
Ghosn used a Japanese term, Kaizen, to explain the strategy of the company in Brazil, which means, in other words, that the maker bets in a gradual nonstop progress for the Brazilian market. Renault denied, for instance, that it seeks alliances in Brazil, as it did with the Japanese Nissan or the German Daimler. "The development in Brazil will take place mainly from the launching of new products, and it includes neither a break with the current strategy, nor new alliances, nor expressive investments to increase the productive capacity", he explained.
Ghosn also counts with the increase of the domestic demand generated by the growth of the Brazilian market that, according to him, would be "far from its potential". The perspective is that Renault increases the market share in the Brazilian market from the current 5% to 7% by the end of 2016. The President of the French maker also commented the change in the Brazilian Government and he said the arrival of Dilma Rousseff will not have a negative impact on the group's strategy in the country. "Much the contrary, we have a very clear perspective Brazil is a stable country", he said.
Besides Brazil, India and Russia are also priority markets for the French automaker. According to Carlos Ghosn, the emerging countries are the main market of the automaker in 2016, absorbing 60% of the international sales.
