Brazil may received US$ 30 billion in direct investments

Valor Econômico

The Brazilian government examines 357 projects of direct foreign investment into the country. One of the next it wants to attract is the installation of a "Smartlab" of IBM, a research laboratory, the country is disputing its hosting with Bahrain and Australia. It was what Alessandro Teixeira, president of the Brazilian Association of Export Promotion and Investment (Apex) reported yesterday in Geneva. Optimistic, he estimated that the flow of foreign direct investment (FDI) will reach US$ 30 billion, while the Central Bank recently lowered that target to something closer to US$ 25 billion. Teixeira said that next week he will launch a logo to serve as the Brazilian brand, aiming at attracting investment of biotechnology, including cosmetics, foods and pharmaceuticals. On its turn, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has reaffirmed its projections that the first quarter showed better flow of FDI, reflecting recovery of the global economy and greater optimism of the officers about the situation of their companies.

Above all, the merger and acquisition activities have increased, but remain low compared to the previous years. UNCTAD projects that the total flow of FDI could reach US$ 1.4 trillion this year. And the developing and transition countries will attract half that sum, while the part of the developed countries, in crisis, will continue to decline.
