Brazil leads high in exports in the world

Valor Econômico

Brazil was already known as a world champion in the increase of imports in 2010. The novelty is the country also appears as the leader of the increases in exports, in current dollars, surpassing China and all other major partners. Statistics of the World Trade Organization (WTO), taking into account 70 countries that make 90% of global trade, show Brazil in the leadership, between January to September, with increases of 33% in exports, with China coming after, with 32 %, the U.S. with 20%, and Russia with 18%.  Between the second and third quarter, Brazil continued as champion, with a 12% increase in the exports, and China with an increase of 11%. This year, the country has already led the ranking of imports. The WTO now shows that between January and September, the purchases abroad slowed down slightly, but they were those that grew more (49%), compared to 39% in the case of Russia, 31% of China, 27% of India and 23% of the United States.

From one quarter to another, the country maintains its leadership with an increase of 18%, followed by Russia with 17% growth. The increase of 15% in commodity prices is an explanation. The price of oil increase more than 10%, food and beverages 12% and metals 25%. In the third quarter, global exports of goods were 3% higher than in the second quarter. But the value of the global trade remains below its peak, previous to the global financial crisis.

The WTO did not make calculations in volume in constant dollars and taking into account inflation. The organization noted a slowdown in trade and "uncertainties ahead". The economic recovery was not strong enough to reduce the massive unemployment in several countries. The International Labour Organization (ILO) estimates that the employment will not return to 2008 levels before 2015 in the developed world. Unemployment reached 30 million people more after the crisis, and consumption remains weak.
