On a visit driven by economic and commercial interests and compliments to Brazil as a global player, the President of the United States, Barack Obama, entered into, on Saturday, with President Dilma Rousseff, a "Strategic Dialog on Energy". The initiative paves the way for cooperation in the exploration of alternative energy and oil drilled at great depths. According to the White House, Dilma welcomed Obama's announcement he will send a commercial mission to Rio for business in the area of gas and oil in May.

"We want to work together with you, help with technologies and support to develop those oil reserves safely", said Obama, commenting on the "strategic dialog" to a group of businessmen gathered by the National Confederation of industry (CNI) and the American Chamber of Commerce in Brasilia, on Saturday. "When you are ready to sell, we want to be one of the main customers".

According to the White House, Dilma and Obama discussed the "intensified exchange of good practices" in oil and gas exploration in the offshore platform and next week, representatives of the U.S. Department of Interior will be meeting with Brazilian authorities to "move forward on the dialog" on safe oil operation. A meeting between the two countries is scheduled in Rio, in October, to discuss the exploration of oil in deep waters and environmental control.

Obama spoke on the issue with Dilma, who, according to the White House, agreed to take "concrete steps" to increase the cooperation on the field. Obama commented the increased role of Brazil in the oil market and emphasized the interest in the "strategic partnership" between both countries and in taking part, "as appropriate" in the development of those features, in an "environmentally and technologically responsible" way.
