Brazil among the six largest global pharmaceutical markets

Brazil is now among the six largest global pharmaceutical markets, with revenues of R$125.1 billion last year, and is expected to climb one or two positions by 2018, according to data from an unpublished study by the Brazilian Institute of Planning and Taxation (BIPT), which will monitor the quarterly evolution of the sector. For 2015, drug sales considering the three channels (laboratories, pharmaceutical distributors and retail) plus exports should reach R$132.15 billion, a 5.7% increase in nominal terms, but a real drop of more than 2%, as result of the economic crisis and the government spending cuts that also affect the health industry.
