BNDES releases grow 35% in 12 months until April

The releases from the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) reached R$ 76.3 billion (US$ 46.8 billion) between May/2007 and April/2008, an increase of 35% compared to the previous period, as press-released yesterday. The approvals amount to R$ 109.7 billion (US$ 67.3 billion, an increase of 29%); the projects that qualified reached R$ 130.8 billion (US$ 80.2 billion, an expansion of 29%); and the inquiries amounted to R$ 148.8 billion (US$ 91.3 billion) until April, a growth of 27% compared to the previous period. BNDES' outlays for the industry grew 8% in the last 12 months ending in April, amounting to R$ 31.8 billion (US$ 19.5 billion). The approvals, on their turn, had a 10% increase and the total value of R$ 48 billion (US$ 29.4 billion). The sectors of textiles (increase of 185% in outlays and 182% in approvals) and foods and beverages (72% and 115%, respectively) stood out. In the infrastructure segment, the outlays were R$ 30.2 billion (US$ 18.5 billion), an increase of 77%, and the approvals were R$ 46.5 billion (US$ 28.5 billion), an increase of 69%. The disbursements to finance the acquisition of machinery and equipment through the Finame line, a program that aimed at the acquisition of industrial goods manufactured in the country, increased 53% in the last 12 months ended in April, and reached the total amount of R$ 18.5 billion (US$ 11.35 billion).
