Basf keeps investments in Suvinil
Gazeta Mercantil 10/29/2008
Although already projecting a weaker 2009, the paint's division of German Basf - owner of the Suvinil and Glasurit brands - does not intend to interrupt the investments in expansion which were announced at the end of last year. It was R$ 15 million (US$ 6.8 million) to increase the capacity of the plant of São Bernardo do Campo (SP) by 15%, to 250 million liters per year, besides practically doubling the capacity in Jaboatão dos Guararapes (PE), to 70 million liters. "Our investments are well adequate for the moment we are living. We have grown more the expected since 2006, when the market was resumed", said Basf's director of house building paints for South America, Francisco Verza. "The crisis, at first, does not affect our plans. It is clear that, just like everybody, we are watching everything with much care and good sense." With the increase of income in the County and bigger share in the Northeast, the company celebrated the advance of its popular brand Glasurit, which leaped from the fifth place to the second place among the standard paints, according to the company. "C and D classes are painting their houses more often. This was one of the factors that drove a two-digit growth in our sales", he said.
