ALL up again with record loads

With the record increase of 18% in the volume carried in the first quarter, América Latina Logística (ALL) registered a profit of R$ 22 million (US$ 13.3 million), reverting the R$ 19.2 million (US$ 9.95 million) loss registered in the previous year. In 2008, the gross revenue of ALL went 18.8% up, reaching R$ 580 million (US$ 351.5 million). The financial and investors' relations' officer of the company, Sérgio Pedreiro, said that, besides the growth of the carried volume the company, some improvement in the operational efficiency was also registered, mainly in the old Brasil Ferrovias (Brazil Railroads) network. "In the period we had a 4% productivity increase, greatly due to the investments made in the track of Brasil Ferrovias, mainly in the state of São Paulo", said Pedreiro. In the old Fepasa, there were tracks from 1940, when the railroad came into operation. In the first quarter the carried volume was 7 billion tons per kilometer (TKU), a growth of 18% compared to the same period of last year. In the consolidated result, including the operations in Argentina, the growth was 14% in consolidated volume, to 7.9 billion TKUs. "The increase of the crop has also influenced this rise and kept the participation of the transport of grains in the ALL's activities", he pointed out. Today, the area of industrialized products corresponds to 30% of all transportation activity of the company compared to the 70% of the transport of grains.
