Alckmin attends launch of the cornerstone of Hyundai in Piracicaba

With a planned investment of US$ 600 million in the undertaking, Hyundai should generate nearly 1.5 thousand direct jobs

Governor Geraldo Alckmin launched this Friday, 25, the cornerstone of the future car plant of Hyundai, in Piracicaba. With a planned investment of US$ 600 million in the construction of the undertaking, the Korean automaker intends to produce nearly 150 thousand vehicles a year in the new plant that should go into operation in the 2nd half of 2012. In total, nearly 1.5 thousand direct jobs will be generated.

At the launching ceremony of the cornerstone were present the Vice Chairman of Hyundai Motor Company, Shin Jong Un, and the Consul General of the Republic of Korea in São Paulo, Park Sang Shik; besides the Vice Governor and Secretary of Economic Development, Science and Technology, Guilherme Afif Domingos; the Mayor of Piracicaba, Barjas Negri; the President of Investe São Paulo, Luciano Almeida; and the former Governor Alberto Goldman, who was honored with a thank you plate for the effort in making the project feasible.

The installation of the first Hyundai plant of Latin America in the State of São Paulo is the result of the union of efforts between Investe São Paulo, São Paulo State Government agency responsible for attracting investments to the State, subject to the Secretariat of Economic Development, Science and Technology, and the Municipal Government of Piracicaba. The company will be exempt from the payment of ICMS (State Sales and Services Tax) in the acquisition of capital goods, through the Pró-Veículo program.

"The State Government has fulfilled all its commitments. With the support of the Pró-Veículo, the works of the automotive park with the Municipal Government, of the technology park that should be inaugurated in 60, 90 days, of the road contour of Piracicaba, which should be ready in April and is an important logistics work for the industries and for the region, and of the Etecs (Technical Schools) and also the Fatec (Technology College) installed here. So, it's a major achievement for São Paulo", Alckmin said.

The manufacturing unit will be located in the industrial district Uninorte, in the neighborhood of Santa Rosa, in an area of 1.3 million square meters, near the works of the building of the business incubator of the technological park of Piracicaba, which will be intended for the areas of research and development in biofuels, biomass conversion technologies and agroindustrial residues, renewable energy and fine chemicals. Besides the Park, the Korean company will be near the Fatec and the Etec, which already have courses in the areas of industrial automation and industrial production.

Besides the installation of the new plant, other nine international suppliers are getting installed in the municipality (Mobis, Dymos, Glovis, Hysco, Ms Autotech, Hwashin, Doowon, Hanil E-Hwa, Th-Net). Altogether, the investments of the nine companies total US$ 200 million, and they are expected to generate nearly 2 thousand jobs. Hyundai intends to manufacture compact models in Piracicaba.
