Rhodia Plásticos de Engenharia América Latina and Daicolor do Brazil have just entered into an agreement to produce and sell colored polyamides in Latin America. The engineering plastics made of polyamides developed in special colors are used mainly in the production of technical parts for several market segments, such as the automotive and transportation, electric and electronic, sports and leisure.
According to the agreement, Rhodia will transfer its client portfolio in this market segment for Daicolor, which will be the sole supplier of polyamide polymer. The two companies will work together to meet the needs of colored polyamide of the customers in the region, including, in a first stage, the technical support required for the development of the activities. "Together, our companies may add new services and increase the expertise to develop new applications of colored polyamides", said the Director of Rhodia Plásticos de Engenharia América Latina, Marcos Curti. According to him, the Brazilian market is facing strong growth and it requires more innovations, which the partnership between companies can bring the market.
Today, 50% of the businesses of Rhodia Plásticos de Engenharia are done with the car industry. "The sector is in strong growth in Brazil and it has demanded more and more innovations", says the Director. He adds that "the businesses of the unit still are also divided in 25% in the sector of electric and electronics equipment and 25% in consumer goods, such as, for instance, drills". The Chinese siege has also already invaded the sector of engineering plastics, but it is far from reaching its main business, the car market.
Daicolor do Brasil, of the Japanese Dainichiseika Color & Chemicals Mfg. Co. Ltd., has global operation in the segments of pigments, technology of colorants, coatings, polymers, thermoplastics and biochemical products. Installed in Brazil since 1974, the company has a plant in Diadema (SP). Rhodia is a chemical group that employs 13,600 people worldwide and had earnings of 4.03 billion Euros in 2009.
