SP Export Project aims to take the best of São Paulo to the world

Investe São Paulo

This November 21, the auditorium of Investe São Paulo, in the city of São Paulo, hosted São Paulo companies graduating in the Export Qualification Program (PEIEX) and which are ready to expand their business internationally.

PEIEX is an initiative of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brazil) and aims to foster the competitiveness and promote the export culture, especially in small and medium-sized companies, qualifying and expanding markets for industries that are new or already active in foreign trade.

Investe São Paulo leads one of PEIEX's operational centers and, through a methodology developed by Apex-Brazil, assists and guides companies, focusing on foreign trade, at no cost.

At the event, Ana Barbosa, competitiveness coordinator of Apex Brazil, Célia Marcondes Ferraz, executive education director of ESPM, and Sérgio Costa, investment director of the agency, welcomed the trainees.

Costa highlighted the importance of the companies' participation in the program to expand their business scope and spread the São Paulo expertise internationally: "This is an essential step to start exporting or improve the position of those who already operate in the international market. Investe São Paulo and Apex-Brazil's performance is fundamental and strategic, as the economy of São Paulo is strengthened when we take the best of the state to the world."

Ana Barbosa also spoke about the opportunities for PEIEX companies after the program. A panel with success stories was presented featuring the experiences of "Vodka TiiV," "MMP Materiais Pedagógicos," and "Filho sem Fila" companies.

The presentation of Rita Campagnoli, president of the Brazilian Council of Importing and Exporting Companies (CECIEX) and partner of the program, ended the meeting, reinforcing the importance of the exports to strengthen and increase the companies' competitiveness, including in the domestic market.

Methodology

In order to participate, companies should have a valid registration in the State of São Paulo, a product or service that could be exported, and availability to fulfill all the training steps. Those with profile and potential for export and also located within 100 km of distance from the state capital were selected to participate in the program.

The center led by Investe SP is formed by a team of seven professionals from the Agency and eight from ESPM (Superior School of Advertising and Marketing) – a partner in the project and who has directly worked in the planning, execution and monitoring of the applied PEIEX method.

In the first step of the program, experts define how ready the company is to export, evaluating with the representative of each company the existing procedures and controls. Then, an intense training process begins, addressing broad topics, such as market prospecting for export and customers in an international market; special customs procedures; packaging adjustment; indirect export marketing; tax incentives for export; mandatory documents; pricing for exports; among others.

Throughout PEIEX, companies have access to personalized mentoring, lectures, workshops, and networking events with other institutions taking part in the program.
