SP Retail foresees 10% growth in sales

The São Paulo businessmen are optimistic as for this year's sales performance. A survey made by the Federation of Commerce of the State of São Paulo (Fecomercio-SP) points out that 41% of the interviewed people expect growth in businesses above 10%, and 36%, an increase of up to 10%. Other 8% affirm that the performance will be the same as in 2007, 3% foresee a fall of up to 10% and 1% expect a fall above 10%. The expectations keep the strong pace of sales registered throughout last year. The survey shows that the majority of the businessmen (52%) did not promote After Christmas clearance sales or any other type of sale promotion. For the 48% who have decided to adopt the strategy, the option for special discounts (50%) prevailed, followed by special offers (29%) and credit sales without interest (8%). In relation to the stocks, 50% informed they are at the same levels seen in the first ten days of January, 2007; for 27%, they are above, and for 21%, below. As for the sales at the beginning of the year, 38% of the businessmen affirmed that the result in the period was identical to that from the beginning of 2007.
