Santos Basin to receive US$ 12 billion until 2012

DCI - 01/28/2008

Petrobras will invest around US$ 12 billion in projects in the Santos Basin until 2012. The funds will be used in the implementation of the Lagosta field, in the construction of the Monteiro Lobato Gas Treatment Unit, in Caraguatatuba, in the development of the Mexilhão, Tambaú and Uruguá, Caravela and Cavalo Marinho fields. The expectation is to reach the production of 30 million m³ of gas and 100 thousand barrels of oil per day in the beginning of the next decade. "With the Mexilhão project, we should reach 15 million m³ of natural gas per day, about 30% of the current national demand", said the general manager of the Business Unit of Exploration and Production of the Santos Basin (UN-ES) José Luiz Marcusso on Thursday. Petrobras is elaborating a Directive Plan of Flow and Treatment of Gas of the Santos Basin for the flowing of that production, which will take care of the expansion of the treatment unit in Caraguatatuba, for example.
