Perdigão registers 320% higher profit in the 3rd quarter

Perdigão announced net profit of R$ 90.2 million (US$ 49.4 million) in the third quarter, 320% superior to the same period of 2006. According to the company, growths of 31% in revenues in the external market and 17% in the domestic market have driven the results. Net earnings reached R$ 1.658 billion (US$ 907.5 million), 23.7% superior to those in 2006; and Ebitda (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization), R$ 227.7 million (US$ 124.6 million), an increase of 94.7%. On Wednesday, its rival company, Sadia, announced net profits of R$ 188.3 million (US$ 103.1 million), an increase of 172.5% in relation to 2006. Last Thursday, Perdigão announced its intention of merging with Eleva Alimentos.
