L’occitane Brazil celebrates foundation stone in Itupeva

Factory settled with the support of Investe São Paulo will be the first one of the group in Brazil and the second one outside France; operations may start in 2019

    For ABIHPEC’s president, João Carlos Basílio, the cosmetics industry will help the Brazilian economy  

On Tuesday, September 12th, L’Occitane Brasil celebrated the installation of its first Brazilian factory in Itupeva with the foundation stone. The investment project is supported by Investe São Paulo, the Investment Promotion Agency of São Paulo State associated with the Department of Economic Development, Science, Technology and Innovation.

“We helped the company to analyze the advantages of having the factory in São Paulo, and also in the relationship with many government institutions involved in the enterprise”, explained Sérgio Costa, the agency’s director, during the event. “Our team will keep working hard to assure that all the deadlines can be fulfilled and also that L’Occitane can make the state and Itupeva its base to grow in Brazil and Latin America”, he completed.

Brazil is one of the five countries with the biggest growing and representativeness levels of the group. “In just four years of the brand, L’Occitane au Brésil reached very good results, making us very proud for being in Brazil”, claimed the group’s general director, Eric Maure, reinforcing the importancy of the Brazilian market for the brand. He also pointed out the work with the town hall and Investe São Paulo for the installation of the new unit, which will be the first L'Occitane ‘s productive plant outside France.

The factory will be settled at a 23 thousand square meters area next to the group’s Distribution Center in Brazil, focusing in the production line of L’Occitane au Brésil and keeping the partnership with providers for the development of some categories. With the initiative, the group intends to amplify its participation in the Brazilian market, besides f investing in the development of the country and attracting more Brazilians with quality cosmetics.

The construction works of the factory may begin this year and the production’s beginning is foreseen to 2019. The whole process is bound to change Itupeva’s economy.

“We had to open the town hall during the town’s birthday so Investe São Paulo could introduce us to the L’Occitane’s executives. I consider the factory a gift to the population”, he claimed. He also thanked the city councilmen that approved an incentive law for the installation of productive investments in the area at a record time.

The president of the Brazilian Personal Hygiene Industry, Perfume and Cosmetics Association (Abihpec), João Carlos Basílio, reinforced the importance of the sector for the Brazilian economy. “The cosmetics sector can raise our economy” he claimed.

The event also counted with the presence of the L’Occitane’s Chairman and CEO, Reinold Geiger, and the secretary of social development of São Paulo state, Floriano Pesaro, that finished the pronouncements representing the governor Geraldo Alckmin.
