Formal job generation breaks record in 2007

In 2007 Brazil broke its record of formal job generation's index. Last year, the balance between hiring and firing exceeded 1.61 million of jobs, which means a 31.6% increase in relation to 2006. Before that, the best performance occurred in 2004, with little more than 1.52 million jobs. In the comparison with that year, there was a 6.1% growth. Civil construction, services and commerce had also registered their best marks, but in absolute terms, the sector of services was the greatest contributor, with 587,103 jobs. Following are: commerce (405,091), processing industry (394,584), civil construction (176,755) and agriculture (21,093). The geographic analysis of the numbers provided by the Caged (General Registry of Employment and Unemployment) revealed that the State of São Paulo was the state that created most formal jobs in 2007, with 611,539 jobs. Minas Gerais appears in second place, with more than 168,398 jobs created. Subsequently, in descending order, appear, among others, the balances of Rio de Janeiro (144,786), Paraná (122,361), Rio Grande do Sul (94,324), Santa Catarina (83,630), Bahia (58,720), and Pernambuco (46,348). The States of Alagoas (505) and Acre (96) have registered loss of formal jobs.
