Embraer sees a more optimist scenario in Asia

Valor Econômico - 02/20/2008

In the next 20 years, the Asia-Pacific region may demand 1.27 thousand regional aircrafts, with operations amounting to US$ 42 billion in the period. The projections were presented by Embraer yesterday, in the Singapore Airshow 2008, one of the largest Aerospace Exhibits of the world. The figures include the sales of aircrafts to China and include from-30-to-120 seats' aircrafts. Between 2008 and 2017, 610 regional aircrafts must be delivered. In the entire world the demand for regional airplanes between 2008 and 2027 may reach 7.4 thousand units.  According to Embraer the estimates are based on an "economic environment of positiveness and greater accessibility to the market by new companies". The political opening will also result in an increase in demand for flights. China, according to the jet maker's estimates, may absorb 730 aircrafts in the next 20 years. The company foresees a sales' growth of nearly 7.5% a year in the country, compared with the 5.3% foreseen for the other countries of the region and face to the international growth of 4.9%. Currently, great part of the Chinese fleet is formed by equipment of narrow airframe (with a single aisle) and large capacity, which are not appropriate to operate in medium-sized cities, according to Embraer. Nearly half of the local fleet has more than 20 years of use. Embraer announced yesterday it realized US$ 258 million in sales. Egyptair acquired six Embraer 170 models, by US$ 189 million. The company still has options for other six units of the same model. Régional, Air France's subsidiary, purchased one unit of Embraer 170 and one of Embraer 190.
