Cleaning and Hygiene sector, gathered by Investe SP, will submit a proposal to reduce water consumption in production

The task force will forward to the state government a joint document undertaking to adopt measures to reduce water consumption

Representatives of manufacturers and retailers of hygiene and cleaning products gathered on September 18, at Investe São Paulo, to conclude the sector’s proposal to reduce water consumption in the manufacturing of an extensive list of items used in millions of households and Brazilian companies.

The so-called Task Force for the Promotion of Water Efficiency of Blue Line Products, at the request of governor Geraldo Alckmin, will submit to the state government the joint document undertaking to adopt measures to reduce water consumption.
On Friday, the president of Investe São Paulo, Juan Quirós, demanded agility in the works of the task force. Manufacturers and retailers, represented by their associations, informed Quirós that the reduction of consumption in the manufacture of products may start from 30% and reach up to 70%, depending on the measures adopted.

The works are in the final drafting stage of a decree that will regulate the reduction of water consumption in the manufacture of these products across the state of São Paulo. The team informed that the document should be completed with the endorsement of the entire sector by October.

The so-called Blue Line serves 98% of Brazilian households. Juan Quirós said that the work of Investe SP, together with the production sector, will bring benefits to the entire population of the state of São Paulo and Brazil.

The meeting was attended by Juliana Marra and Wagner Orlandi, Unilever; Thiago Pietrobon, Supermarket Association of São Paulo (APAS); Maria Eugenia Saldanha and Giancarlo Montagnani, Brazilian Association of Industries of Cleaning and Related Products (Abipla); Daniela Rios, P&G; Miriam Moreira Bocchigleri, engineer of the Department of Sanitation and Water Resources; Noemia Akemi Koga, Department of Finance; José Eduardo Ismael Lutti, coordinator of Urban Parks of the Environmental Department; Jorge Alberto Tenório, specialist in Solid Waste Management of the Environmental Department; Sérgio Costa, director of Investe SP; Luciana Escames and José Pedro Fittipaldi, Environment specialists of Investe SP and Rafael Lapinha, tax specialist of Investe SP.
