<i>Folha de S. Paulo</i> - 10/18/2007

The BNDES (National Bank of Social and Economic Development) is negotiating a credit line of at least US$ 2 billion with the IBD (World Bank) in order to confront the volume of loan requests expected for 2008. In the last months, the BNDES has pointed out that needs to increase the volume of resources available for disbursements to meet the requests for loans. This year, from January to September, the BNDES granted loans of R$ 41.8 billion (US$ 22.9 billion), a result 34% superior to that of the same period of the previous year. The disbursements for infrastructure increased 53% and amounted to R$ 16 billion (US$ 8.8 billion) in the first nine months of the year. The loans for the industry, on their turn, increased 14% and reached R$ 18.8 billion (US$ 10.3 billion). The analysis of the loans in 12 months shows that the bank achieved the record value of R$ 62.5 billion (US$ 34.2 billion), an increase of 32%. The stock of projects that have been approved (but have not funds yet) reached R$ 60.5 billion (US$ 33.1 billion) from January to September, with an increase of 32.4% compared with the same period of the previous year. The stock of operation approved for infrastructure alone achieved R$ 25.05 billion (US$ 13.7 billion)
